Neuropathic Disorders which are caused by diabetes complications are called Diabetic Neuropathy. Diabetic  microvascular injury which involves blood vessels that supply nerves are thought to be the cause of Diabetic Neuropathy.

Diabetes is considered the most leading cause of neuropathy in most countries and it is a source of death in diabetes patients. Hyperglicemia is a leading cause of diabetic neuropathy in diabetic patients. Age, hypertension, habits like smoking and hyperlipidemia along with the duration a patient has been suffering from diabetes are the major risk factors of diabetic neuropathy.

Even though the modern medicine has a deep understanding of diabetes and neruopathy, the treatment of diabetic neuropathy is limited by its side effects and lack of efficiency. So, controling your blood sugar is the best way to prevent an attack of diabetic neuropathy.  Other ways of treatment of this disease include:

  • Tricyclic antidepressants
  • Serotonin reuptake inhibitor
  • Antiepileptic drugs
